Hello, my name is Carmen Salazar, I am an assistant to A. K. Nicholas. I will be helping recruit models, provide educational material for both models and photographers, and making new connections with social media. You may see me guest posting articles, photos or video. I’ll also be doing stuff behind the scenes on tags and description, as well as editing and reviewing some stuff.
My background is in corporate communications. I am bilingual and plan to help attract a larger viewership of Spanish speakers. I am a senior undergrad student at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO. I have one semester left until I get an Advertising and Public Relations: Corporate Communications major, and a minor on Marketing. I have done some creative projects for my classes using Photoshop and InDesign. And I have also worked in groups to create advertising campaigns for local businesses. This Summer, I have been working with my school’s webpage www.lindenlink.com doing some writing and advertising. I enjoy reading books that talk about life, and that give me a different perspective about people and life itself. Interesting for being a woman, I do not enjoy of shopping because it stresses me out; I know, I am weird on that aspect. On the exciting side, I like to take risks and to travel around the world.
I am from a small city called Barcelona, not the one in Spain, but the one that is in Venezuela. I lived there for my first 18 years of life, and people there have called me Munchies ever since I was born. After that, I got a scholarship for Synchronized Swimming at Lindenwood, so I came to Missouri to get my college degree and to swim. I learned to swim when I was a couples of months old, I know, it seems kind of impossible, but my father is a swimming coach, so we spend more time in the pool than in our house. I swam for many years, but It was not until I was a 10 years old, that I decided to switch to something more exciting and passionate, which is Synchronized Swimming. This year, we finished first in the nation, ahead of Ohio State and Stanford.
I’m very excited about my role working with models, photographers, and viewers. I appreciate figure photography because it makes the eye value the beauty of the human body, and the beautiful pieces that can be created without clothes disguising reality. What I like about A. K. Nicholas’ work is that each of his images has a meaning, and that he focuses on creating art rather than just capturing a good photo. What I hope to achieve in this role is to add diversity to my skills through the use of new social media outlets, and the management of tools that are in the web, which I could use to improve the performance of a corporation. So far, I have not done so much work related to the communications field, and I am feeling the urge to start exploring and experiencing this side of me. This is why I am planning on using this internship as an engine to start accomplishing new goals in my corporate life. Next, I would like to work at a magazine for a while, and then my biggest goal would be to work for Coca-Cola. I plan to enhance the popularity of A. K. Nicholas’ work, and to start making my name known around the creative and corporate fields. Here is one of my favorites photos taken by A K Nicholas
